How to Make Sculptural Spheres Using Vinyl Tubing

Gold is one of the hottest trends in home décor for 2014, adding a touch of luxury and glam to any room. The beauty of gold is that it can be displayed in every season and when combined properly, creates a beautiful statement.

Picture it combined with the subtle tones of blues in a coastal cottage, or the playful colors of a Moroccan flat, or the classic look of black and white.

Anyway you display it, gold is timeless and a designer’s must.
These sculptural spheres can be made small enough to display on your desk, or large and bold to be displayed over a mantel, or simply placed on the floor.

So let's get started...

Materials:
  • Clear vinyl tubing of desired size
  • Scissors
  • Spray paint of choice
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pliable wire
First, cur three pieces of tubing of qual size (these measured approx. 6 inches).

Thread wire through the tubing and cut, allowing approximately 1 inch to 2 inches of extra wire at either side.

Tie wire together to close your tubing.

Place one of the circles around the other as shown and tie both wires together to make a sphere.

Tuck extra wire inside the tube.

Place third circle inside the previous formation as shown and again tie extra wire around tube.

It should look something like this.

You can vary your design of you wish and place a fourth circle around the circumference of the sphere.

To ‘bind’ all of the seams together, apply a generous amount of hot glue where the tubes meet.

Spray paint with your favorite metallic spray paint and you’re done.

In this photo, you can see how the hot glue finishes the piece and gives it a ‘welded’ look, adding to the sculptural and metallic feel of the piece.
